Economies at War

The Kurdish Civil War

This clip deals with the Iraqi Kurdish civil war from 1994 to 1997, a war that remains silenced in Iraqi Kurdistan until this day. Rather than seeing this war as a war between two different Kurdish political parties, Schluwa Sama points to the international sanctions regime of the time. The invisible war (Joy Gordon) of economic sanctions had turned into a war of access to resources, crucial for survival in the everyday.
